Robert Ronald Atwell (born 1954) is the current Anglican Bishop of Stockport.[3]
Atwell was born in 1954 in Ilford, Essex,[2] and educated at the St John's College, Durham and Westcott House, Cambridge. He was ordained as a priest of the Church of England in 1979.[4] His career began with a curacy at John Keble Church, Mill Hill,[5] after which he was chaplain of Trinity College, Cambridge from 1981 to 1987. He then spent ten years as a Benedictine monk at Burford Priory[6] in Oxfordshire, and finally (before his elevation to the Episcopate) was Vicar of St Mary’s, Primrose Hill.[7]
Bishop Robert was consecrated at York Minster on 24 June 2008[1] and welcomed into the Diocese on 27 June 2008 at Chester Cathedral.[1]
